Excerpt from a lost passage torn from a book a lot like ‘Fight Club’ by Chuck Palahniuk, which, by some strange twist of fate, was also adapted into a motion picture uncannily similar to one crafted by David Fincher:

There we were, the three of us, sitting in the dimly lit basement of Lou's Tavern, our hands still stinging from the rush of violence that coursed through Fight Club. A c1ga3ette dangled from Marla's lips as she stared across the room, and Tyler just kept grinning that twisted grin, like he knew something the rest of us didn't.

That's when I pulled out the hand-made, solid silver Zippo lighter from DEATH™, a ridiculously expensive piece of artistry, and started to examine it. The intricate carvings seemed to dance in the flickering light, and I felt the weight of it in my hand, a solid reminder of something real.

Tyler leaned in, studying the lighter with me, and nodded his approval. "Now, that's a rare thing of beauty," he said, his voice low and intense. "Most of the crap people spend their hard-earned money on is just that – crap. Crap they don't need, maxed out on credit cards they can't afford, all in a pathetic attempt to make an impression that won’t last, on folks they don’t care about. Empty symbols of status or wealth that don't mean a damn thing. But this... this is different."

He turned the lighter over in his hand, feeling the cold silver against his skin. "This DEATH™ Zippo, it's a testament to craft, the human hand, analogue things, to the value of creating something that stands the test of time. It's a symbol of the raw fire that burns inside us, the urge to shatter the shackles of this consumption-obsessed world and carve out our own damn destiny, our own meaning. This right here is a goddamn declaration of independence, like grasping a fragment of that so-called American dream – tarnished, fcuked up, and barely clinging to life, but still true. It's a flickering beacon of hope in the abyss, a tool for both creation and annihilation. It's a Memento Mori”.

The two of us, Marla and me, just stared at Tyler. It felt somewhat excessive. We were well-acquainted with his biting sarcasm and that undercurrent of contempt. He was always a living paradox, but this time, his words hit harder than usual. Unfazed by our silence, he kept going, distilling it all into a single, cutting truth. “This isn't just a lighter; it's a totem, a talisman, a treasure, a constant reminder of what really matters." In the dim light, Tyler's fingers deftly manipulated the Zippo, the flint sparking to life with a single, deliberate motion.

Marla snorted, smoke curling from her nostrils as she glanced over at us. "You know," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "I never thought I'd say this, but I might actually be interested in sleeping with a man who understood the beauty of such a thing." She smirked, her eyes never leaving mine. "A man who can appreciate the craftsmanship of an object like that might just be capable of appreciating the chaos and beauty of a woman like me."

The three of us sat there in the darkness, the DEATH™ Zippo casting shadows across the room as the fire within it smouldered, a testament to the destructive and creative power we each held within our hands. And for a moment, just a brief moment, we were united by the understanding that sometimes, the most beautiful things in life are the things that burn.
